Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book my first session?
Simply head over to our 'Get Started' page and fill in the form. A member of our team will be in touch within 24 hours to arrange the next steps.
*Our provisional date for re-opening is June 7th in line with Government guidelines
Which plan is right for me?
If you're unsure, don't worry. The first step in joining our gym is always to have an introductory meeting with a head coach to discuss the program and which option is best. Generally, most new members will follow Solas Training to master the basics of movement and slowly build up fitness.
The CrossFit route is for those looking for 'something more' out of their training or trying to fill the void for those who played competitive team/individual sports.
Is CrossFit dangerous? (injuries etc)
The CrossFit training programme is the best training programme in the world, covering all elements of fitness and the ten physical skills. If this programme is taught incorrectly, it can be dangerous but this is the same for any training programme that exists. Frequently, people blame the CrossFit programme on their injuries when it's poor coaching that is responsible.
We run two separate programmes at Solas - our Solas Training which focuses on health/wellness and our competitor 'CrossFit' program. Solas Training is designed to rebuild the body whereas our competitor programme would contain the same risks as any sport - hockey, football, triathlon etc.
Regardless of which training plan you choose, all our clients receive a postural & movement analysis on entry and will not be permitted to carry out movements that their bodies are not capable of performing.
Should I get fit before I join CrossFit?
So the simple answer is no.
Our entry system to CrossFit Solas is called Elements. This is a programme designed to teach people the fundamentals and basics of movement and develop a baseline of fitness. Over 95% of clients that Ian has trained in Elements over the past 12 years have started from a fitness level of 0.
Will I get big from doing CrossFit?
This is the most frequently asked question by females. Our CrossFit health & fitness programme is designed and tailored to females' muscle fibre types to ensure a lean and toned look. On entry to our gym, we will discuss and map out your goals in order to make sure the programme you are doing in the gym fits the body shape that you want. Most of the females you see on instagram or at the CrossFit games train 4-5 x per day and strive to achieve the physique they have to compete at the highest level in the world.
I'm new to the area, I'd like to try it out before joining.
We require all new members to meet with the head coach to discuss their goals and abilities before joining Solas. Following this meeting, if you still feel you want to try a class and the coach feels you have the physical ability, we'd be happy to arrange.
Do you have changing facilities?
Yes we do! We offer full female/male changing facilities including lockers/showers/bathrooms. Members can also relax post training in the sauna/steam room and jacuzzi.
(Closed right now due to COVID restrictions)
What should I bring to train?
Nothing different to a regular gym! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water and small towel.
What's the initial consult all about?
This 'intro' or consultation with a head coach is a meeting to meet you and to learn more about you and your personal goals. We work with every member to create a personalised plan and we personalise training and the other add ons to suit.
Do you offer Student Discounts
We do! For full-time students, we offer a monthly rate of €100 per month (50% discount)
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
No problem! There is always a solution to training around the problem. If you're interested we can also discuss treatment protocols with various practitioners on site.
Do I have to book ahead of time?
In general, yes.
Do you offer corporate wellness?
